Community Aged Care

Our Community Services
1995 saw UPA expand into the provision of services to frail older people within their own homes.  As a Christian care organization with a long track record in providing care for disadvantaged children and accommodation for elderly people within our communities, the UPA’s expertise and commitment to care was easily extended into the home environment. Starting with thirty Community Aged Care Packages (CACPs) in the Tweed Shire our work has grown over the years into an extensive and varied community care program throughout NSW:

In 2002 the UPA in Tweed Shire were also successful in obtaining seventy five Veterans Home Care places within the community. The program offers respite, personal care and domestic assistance to veterans in need of support.

The Murray River Region for many years has received Home and Community Care funding to provide a two day a week day club for people with dementia in the community, with ten to twelve people participating each day.
In 1997 the community programs extended from aged care to also include support for family carers, with the establishment of Commonwealth Carer Respite Centres (CCRC) in both the Far and Mid North Coast Regions. The CCRCs operate 24 hours a day, and organize respite on a short term planned or emergency basis. They also book respite places in aged care facilities and run a variety of programs that target carers who are ageing, young carers and carers of a person with dementia, palliative care need, who are frail aged, or with a physical, or mental disability. The CCRCs assist approximately 5000 carers per year.

These two programs were further extended in 2000 to include the Commonwealth Carelink programs, which provide information on Health and Community Services to GPs, health professionals, older persons and people with a disability.

All our community programs have a commitment to providing care of the highest possible standard, promoting independence, dignity and choice for all our frail older people, veterans, persons with a disability and the carers who access our services.
